The Science Department integrates Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Metrology and Earth Science disciplines sharing the same rigorous methods of scientific research and principles for excellence. It is a structure of high scientific quality, as shown by reports of the National Agency for the Evaluation of University and Research System (ANVUR) in Italy.
The multi-disciplinary expertise of the members provides the basis for the development of innovative and interdisciplinary research lines able to compete for various national and international objectives. Indeed, in the last 5 years the Department has managed over 10 million euros of funding for research projects on competitive calls, of which 6 million euros from international projects funded mainly by the European Commission and about 1 million euros from agreements with public institutions and private companies on specific research projects.
In the frame of a National competition among all University Departments in Italy, it has been recently recognized as a ‘Link identifier #identifier__17602-2Department of Excellence’ by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MIUR) and was awarded by a grant of 8.7 million euros to support an interdisciplinary project (2018-2022) dealing with the Anthropocene and anthropogenic impact on the environment and human health.
