Acquisition of knowledge about the structural and functional diversity of microorganisms, the structure, composition, and function of microbial cells, the structure and life cycle of viruses, the mechanisms responsible for the evolution of microorganisms, the strategies to control microbial growth and infections, the mechanisms underlying the pathogenic action of microorganisms, laboratory diagnosis of viral, bacterial, and fungal diseases, the main characteristics of major human pathogenic viruses, bacteria and fungi, the basic principles of antimicrobial immunity.
