Condensed Matter and NanoMaterials Science

The PhD programme is an interdisciplinary action to provide young researchers and professional with proficiency in nanoscience and nanotechnologies. These open up new possibilities for studying and controlling physical and chemical phenomena occurring at the nanoscale (1-100 nm in size), as well as for developing new devices and nanosystems. This research area spreads across quantum physics, supramolecular chemistry, materials science, and molecular biochemistry. It bears deep implications for strategic technologies for health, cultural heritage, security, energy, and electronics. The PhD candidates will develop a dynamical and critical approach to problem solving through their activities: 1. carrying out autonomously research projects, either theoretical or experimental, with a fine balance between teamwork and individual creativity; 2. developing an attitude to elaborating new model for the explanation and prediction of phenomena. In order to achieve the goals of the PhD programme, the candidates will become part of research groups active in the Science Department, or in national and international collaborations, while attending courses and seminars devoted to the latest developments in nanoscience.
